sonic youth poster design

The outset of this project was to design a poster based on early 19th century letterpress designs, wood press designs, and lithography prints. The event would be presented by my publishing company, Red Onion. I decided to make a concert poster for the band Sonic Youth, because famous author William S. Burroughs worked with the rock band during the beatnik revival of the 1980s. Because maintaining authenticity is important to me, I found an actual show that the Sonic Youth played and used those details for my flyer. The particular show is from the Bad Moon Rising Tour, and their single "Death Valley" was quite popular during this time. Therefore, I chose to use an image from the Eastern California desert.

I used a photograph through Creative Commons taken by WildManyxe that I painted over in PhotoShop.
